Greetings fellow Scientists!
In our last session of this year, we finished our disco holders by filling in the gaps with some wall filler:
The last bit to do is to remove the excess filler, polish the edges and voila :)
We are all ready for Christmas!
See you next year!

Christmas art project - session 1
Greetings fellow Scientists!
The Smarties Science Club members are embracing the Christmas spirit by making gifts for our loved ones. The first project is a brush or crayons holder. Here is the video that inspired us to do it:
We started by cutting the CDs into tiny pieces:
Next, we went to DT where we used the hot glue guns to put the pieces of CD onto the jars we wanted to decorate:
If you decide to try this at home be careful with the hot glue gun as we had a casualty :) Here's Lewis with a slightly burnt finger:
Visit our blog next week to see the progress of the work :)

Water density
Greetings fellow Scientists!
Inspired by the “Water in the oceans” article in the latest
edition of the Catalyst magazine, we
decided to test out an experiment described there.
The article talks about the
salty water in the oceans and the fact that it can either mix quickly, slowly
or not at all. We conducted an experiment called “Mixing fresh and salty water”.
We started with two cups of water. In one, we dissolved salt up until the point we
reached a saturated solution. Second cup had no salt at all. We also added two
different food colourings to see if the fresh water would mix with the salty
water.
As you can see, when we tried to mix the two waters together, we got two separate
layers. Why? Think density J
the fresh water is less dense than the salty water.
Try this experiment yourself!

Book of Achievements
Greetings fellow Scientists!
In today's session we had a look at the tasks in the Book of Achievements that we are completing as a part of the work we do in our club.

How good are the indigestion remedies?
Greetings fellow Scientists!
In our today's session we decided to test the following hypothesis: indigestion remedies bought from a chemist are better than using baking powder or bicarbonate of soda.
We used the litmus paper and pH probes to check the pH of the hydrochloric acid and see if neutralization occurred.
We concluded that Rennie was the best at neutralizing the acid.
Today's session was special as the co-ordinator from our partner school, Mrs Grażyna Ochwat, paid us a visit.

Half-term visit to the partner school
Greetings fellow Scientists!
Today I had a pleasure of visiting our partner school - Gimnazjum no 4 in Stargard Szczeciński. Together with the Polish students we made bath bombs. As you can see from the photos below, the effects were absolutely fabulous! Well done!

Halloween lanterns
Greetings fellow Scientists!
Our latest session was extremely creative as we decided to make some Halloween decorations. We made beautiful lanterns and also decorated some pumpkins.
