Inspired by the video we found on the Periodic Videos channel on You Tube, we decided to try it out and see if the results would be similar.

Today we had a lot of fun and made some beautiful soaps.
This is what we used:

The first step was to cut the soap base and melt it:

Then, we added essential oils and some colours:

Lastly, we poured our mixture into the moulds:

This is the final effect:

Flame tests

Today we conducted a series of flame tests. Firstly, we noted down the colours of known substances such as copper chloride or calcium chloride. Then, like a true detective, we identified unknown substances A - D.

Investigating exothermic reactions

In our first session we investigated exothermic reactions. 3 groups were testing how different amounts of calcium carbonate raised the temperature of water, whereas 2 other groups tested the same reaction while making a "hand warmers".
